This year’s fair will start on Oct 10 in Guangzhou, capital of Guangdong province, with 6,000 booths that cover a total area of 150,000 square meters.

Over the past 13 years, more than 8,200 overseas companies had participated in the fair,上海千花网

Following Russia and India, South Africa becomes a co-host of the fair this year, showing the important role of the fair of promoting trade and

than 10 million visitors each year. Architect Ieoh Ming Pei

World-renowned architect Ieoh Ming Pei, commonly known as I.M. Pei,

has died at the age of 102 at his home in Manhattan, according to multiple reports on Thursday.

Praised as “one of the most revered architects in the world” by The New York Times, Pei has le

ft the world many of its most well-known architectural designs, among many other intangible heritages.

Pei’s modern designs and high-profile projects led him to be considered one of the most high-prof

ile architects of the 20th century, with the renovation of Paris’ Louvre Museum perhaps the most famo

us project he embarked on. He was also involved in the building of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland.

What Pei valued most in architecture, as he put it, was that it must “stand th

e test of time”. He also valued simplicity: “The simpler the solution, the more powerful it is,” he once said.

Wang stressed if one side is trying to place extreme press

extreme pressure on the other, it will cause a legitimate counterattack.

“The measures from us are not only to safeguard China’s own rights, b

ut to protect the basic rules of the current multilateral trading mechanism,” Wang said.

Wang made the remark in a joint news conference with his Russian

counterpart Sergei Lavrov during his visit to the Black Sea coastal city of Sochi.

Experts warned that the rising US tariffs on Chinese imports risks a full-blown trade war, which will bring harm to both sides.

Major Wall Street stock indexes declined more than 2 percent on Monday, followi

ng China’s announcement of countermeasures in response to Washington’s latest tariff move.

Fretting about weight has become a common topic for

discussion among Chinese women-and not just at the office. Such discussions can be heard

everywhere, from high school classrooms to fitness studios, beauty salons and department stores.

But the issue is not just cause for concern in China. Obsessing over body shape has also emerged in Western countries over the past decade.

The term “fat talk” was coined by United States anthropologist Mimi Nic

hter and her team of researchers in 1994 after they observed the way girls in middle school

spoke about their body shapes-unexpectedly revealing that they invariably focused on the negatives.

Since then, numerous studies have detailed how pervasive “fat talk” has become among women of all ages.

A study published in the Psychology of Women Quarterly in 2011 found that an “overwhelm

ing majority of women”-93 percent-admitted to discussing the issue, with one-third of them doing so frequently.

While early-stage Uber investors such as Benchmark, Men

Ventures, First Round Capital and Lowercase Capital made a killing in the IPO, some late-stage backers did not fare as well.

Japan’s SoftBank Group Corp <9984.T >, for example, invested in Uber in early 2018 at $48.

77 per share. It also bought shares at a much lower price in a large secondary transaction.

To be sure, other IPOs have traded well so far in 2019, including online scrapbook company Pinterest Inc, vegan burger

maker Beyond Meat Inc and video-conferencing startup Zoom Video Communications Inc. But these were mu

ch smaller startups than Uber that did not execute as many frothy fundraising rounds.

Uber Chief Executive Dara Khosrowshahi, who was on the NYSE trading floor to mark the debut, tried to cal

m investors by pointing to the company’s growth prospects and expansion plans.

Ruwan Wijewardene, Sri Lankan state defense min

nister, said on Tuesday that Islamic extremists staged the attacks in

Sri Lanka in retaliation to the shootings in two New Zealand mosques in March that claimed 50 lives.

And the blasts lay bare several threats confronting the whole world. First

of all, the reflux of IS terrorists formerly active in Iraq and Syria to countries that have not su

ffered large-scale serial terrorist strikes in a while poses a serious threat to their people’s safety.

Sri Lanka had enjoyed relative peace after the Liberation Tige

rs of Tamil Eelam, a militant organization demandin

g a separate homeland for Tamils in northeastern Sri Lanka, was defeated in 2009.

Governments have been keeping a close watch on the small nu

mber of people that have returned to their countries after atten

ding IS training camps. Yet the lack of coordination mechanisms among countries seemin

gly helps the terrorists evade surveillance and collude with extremist forces outside their countries.

Xiongan New Area afforests over 1,400 hectaresngan New

The Xiongan New Area in north China have completed an afforestation project of more tha

n 1,400 hectares with several green belts built this spring, the Hebei provincial forestry and grassland bureau said Sunday.

By the end of March 29, Xiongan had planted trees covering an area of 1,466.7 hectares.

In 2018, Xiongan New Area afforested a total of 7,333 hectares, increasing the area’ forest coverage by 6 percent.

In January, China’s central authorities approved the 2018-2035 master plan for Xiongan. According to the plan, which str

esses high-quality development, Xiongan will become a modern city that is green, intell

igent and livable with “relatively strong competitiveness and human-environment harmony by 2035.”

Hebei will beef up afforestation programs. A total of 513,333 hec

tares of forest will be added in the province in 2019, increasing the forest coverage to 35 percent.

The province began a three-year afforestation campaign in 2018, planting more trees to build a “green wall” for Beijing.

The alternative to “no-deal” is to delay Brexit for at leas

least several months while Britain tries to sort out the mess.

The bloc is reluctant to have a departing Britain participate in Euro

pean Parliament elections in late May, which it would have to do if Brexit is delayed.

But EU Council President Donald Tusk has urged the bloc to give Britain an extensi

on, if it plans to change course and seek a softer Brexit that keeps close economic ties between Britain and the bloc.

This week British lawmakers held a series of “indicative votes” on alternativ

es to May’s deal — and all eight options on offer were defeated. But the move did hint at a potential compromise. The

measure that came closest to a majority called for Britain to remain in a customs union with the EU after it leaves.

May has always ruled that out, because sticking to EU trade rules would limit Britain’s ability to forge new trade deals around the world.
